About Me

My name in Angie and this is my journey. Take it or leave it, it is what it is. Almost two years ago on April 16,2008 I had Gastric Bypass surgery. I was a walking time bomb at 5'9" and 318 lbs and there was no where to run any more. I was pre-diabetic, had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, severe obstructive sleep apnea, metabolic syndrome and Thryriods disease. Almost immediately after surgery I was able to be taken off all my meds except for thyroid medication. I still have to take my gastric bypass cocktails in the am as I call them but its no different than the suppliments that we all should be taken, fat or thin healthy or not. The reason I start off so strong and say it is what is , is quit frankly after all is said it done that is the most consice statement! I had people who wouldnt be my friend when I was over weight, people who wouldnt even hold a door for me. However today in my size eight jeans the world is a different place. No its not me that has changed its the world around me. Granted I am smaller, however I  am just mere replica of my former self! Come on people its stomach surgery not brain surgery!
Ha, but its not all smooth sailing. Who ever thinks that Gastric Bypass surgery is "the easy way out" is in for a rude awakening Ha! I even have friends that havent jumped the fence yet and who repeatedly tell me they are going to try the natural way! O whatever. NEWS FLASH: Gastric Bypass does not cause your flab to fall off your big fanny while you sleep! OMG imagine that. So you ask how then? And I tell you with diet and exercize. Wow you mean like the natural way? What a concept! Lets fast forward to today from the start of my journey which by the way begins way before your surgery. I still have to eat right and go to the gym. Sorry folks, there is no magic pill, no seceret belly flab melting food. So now thats off my chest, lol!
This year was another wake up call on how important it is for me particulary to continue eating healthy and doing exercize. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Although its not a disease itself it does act like a lot of other auto immune diseases. It can cause swelling in any part of the body but especially in trigger areas. Fortunately for me though I have found that I have a gluten intolerance and dairy intolerance and by avoiding these foods and eating right and again exercise I can control my symptoms. I do take a muscle relaxer to sleep as sleep is another huge key component to lots of things like your weight and health.
So there you have, the skinny on me! However I wanted to share with you all the journey as well. I am finding it hard at times to find a good balance of healthy foods that are sugar free, or red sugar or NSA that are also gluten free.I hope to provide you with some resourses that I have found helpful. As my husband and I travel I will also be listing gluten/ sugar free menu options at resturaunts! Remember your journey begins and ends with you! Go the distance, youll feel the difference!
